Busy sleeping

A gust of wind slips through the crack below the door, making the curtains sway in a way that annoys Little Dot.

She cries out for help, because that’s what babies do, but no one came to the rescue. Dotty lays in her dinosaur onesie with Pip the Squirrel pulling up the blanket to make the bed cozier.

“Looks like it’s going to rain, we should gather all the pillows tight to stay warm,” whispers Pip excitedly, thinking of the wonderful time they’re going to spend playing Pillow Castle.

Dotty thinks the same way too.

“Citizens of Pillow Land, the time of doom has come yet again to drench us with misery. I, as the King of this blessed land, humbly invite all of my subjects to take shelter in my majestic cot, where a tea party shall ensue!” Little Dot announces to the nursery, and distant cheering from the toys approve of this decision.

“Well said, my King. Now, let us descend to gather our friends,” Pip the Butler holds Dotty’s mittened hand down the cot, whispering every now and then to be careful not to fall.

Dotty crawls around the carpeted floor, collecting Elle, Cat, Buns, Shark, Bear, Hedge, Doggy, Monkey, Fishy, and twenty more toys into a train trolley.

The ordeal takes about half a day and in between, Dotty takes a nap on Pip’s bushy tail.

Pip the Conductor then steers the train to a halt in front of the castle, where both Dotty and Pip help rescue all the toys up through the wooden balustrades.

Right on time, the rain starts to fall. Dotty and friends form a circle and pass around tea and desserts.

The toys share stories of their daily lives until the rain stops and the moon starts to rise.

Little Dot listens intently, wishing she could go on all these adventures too.

She dreams of herself fighting off the giants that were cursed with a deafening scream, racing up the meadows from the fires that couldn’t resist eating flowers, and even flying in the underwater world, floating upside down and seeing the stars reflecting off the dark blue surface.

Dotty drifts away into a deep slumber, and the toys stay with her.

Pip the Reaper turns off the bedside lamp and they hug Dotty together, waiting for the next gust of wind to wipe the tears away.
