Can ice cream be permanent? Can its presence be normalised like how the east normalise rice? Rice, as a species sustained through poverty and drought, becomes permanent.
To choose between ice cream and rice, is an easy choice for an old man, and an even easier choice for a young kid. Each have a different reason in mind, but gives the same answer: because it tastes better.
To say rice is permanent in eastern culture, might be true for a generation that sees rice as ice cream. But down the road? Who knows, maybe ice cream could be the new rice:)
Which begs the question, why do we need to cancel out traditions/ customs like it's some last season's iPhone?
There's a need for growth and evolution, but more so to understand where to draw the line of righteous behaviour, and when to stand firm on a temporary belief.
It's being open while skeptical enough to admit that 'you are wrong for eating ice cream' is just as ridiculous as 'you are wrong for eating rice.'
