RWC 12 - Love I

I have never fallen in love, or been in a relationship before. I just like to admire people from afar.

So, am I legit enough to talk about love?

No.

Am I still going to talk about it anyway?

You bet.

There are many, many philosophies weighing in on this topic. I read most of it for research purposes. What I can relate to are two philosophies:

The first one comes from the Greeks, and I’m sure you have heard of the three main types of love.

Eros

The romantic love. Blossoms from intimate relationship and a dangerous love it is, for the Greeks described it as being struck by Cupid’s arrow. A tragedy.

Philia

The brotherly love. Founded from genuine friendships and the kind that lasts a lifetime. Even better if it blossoms from eros.

Agape

Universal love. The purest form of love there is. This love gives without asking for anything in return, without even caring who the other person is. It can be charities or religious services.

Sometimes, we might feel unfulfilled in love, because we spend too much time in eros and neglect the rest.

Personally, I think the best we can strive for (if not agape), is philia. Nothing feels better than having best friends alongside us in life.
